Park director quits, cites lack of skills

BISMARCK (AP) — Morton County Park Director Vern Davis has resigned, saying he can’t keep up with the skills needed for the job.

Davis, 72, said he lacks the computer skills needed to fulfill his duties. He said managing the 15 parks in the district is becoming more complex. He said someone younger will be more able to meet the challenges.

“I didn’t feel I was earning my keep,” Davis told the Bismarck Tribune.

He also said recent health issues, including a knee replacement surgery, factored into his resignation.

Davis served as the part-time county park director for 12 years and was a high school biology teacher for 35 years before that.

During his time in the office, the park district replaced aging equipment, put up a storage building, set up winter snow fences and maintained abandoned cemeteries.

“I have no regrets on the stuff we did,” he said. “We raised the parks to a higher standard, but it needs to be higher.”
