Recharge Church’s “Best Medicine” comedy series will administer laughter and a dose of inspiration when comedian Jeff Allen takes the stage at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Streeter City Hall.

“It’s clean humor, but it ain’t church,” said the Rev. John Erbele, Recharge Church’s lead pastor.

Allen, who struggled with alcohol and drug abuse, turned his life around and now performs on television and radio, as well as at corporate events, comedy clubs and churches.

He’s been featured on Comedy Central and VH1, as well as the Odyssey Channel, Family Net and the Worship Network.

“This is what I love about Jeff. Every age group from grade school to 90 years old will understand his humor and get it, and he relates to them,” Erbele said.

Admission to Allen’s performance “I Can Laugh About It Now” is free, and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

“The world sometimes gets so intense, just having a good laugh is good medicine,” Erbele said, adding he hopes to bring in a positive light for the community.

The nondenominational Recharge Church has grown over the past year, and with 100 to 120 people attending each week, has moved services to Streeter City Hall, at 229 Florence St. They begin at 6:30 p.m. each Sunday.

Other planned events at Recharge include an alternative Halloween party for children called Candyland, a retro bowling night for youth and a Christmas tea.

“We’re just trying to do things that fill needs in the community,” Erbele said.
