The Jimmies had conceded only seven goals in their perfect 10-0 start to the season.
Saturday afternoon, Great Falls (Mont.) got a pair of goals in the span of about two minutes and then hung on for dear life to hand Jamestown College its first loss of the season, 2-1.
The Jimmies controlled the ball and had more quality chances to score than the 7-2-1 Argos, but that was little solace to a frustrated Phillip Bohn.
“It’s the little details, the little things that I’ve been harping on all year. … Those things got us beat,” the JC coach said. “You can get away with them against lesser teams, but good teams make you pay for them.”
Christian Johansen scored both Great Falls goals, the first coming at the 9:39 mark, and then again just over two minutes later for a 2-0 edge.
It was an uphill battle the rest of the way for the Jimmies, although they did appear to have the edge in quality.
However, it took until the 82nd minute when Jade Johnson lined one past Jose Duran for the Jimmies (10-1) to get on the board. George Gauld got an assist on the play. Johnson and Gauld are the team’s leading scorers.
The Jimmies kept attacking late, but could not find an equalizer.
“Hopefully this teaches us a lesson,” Bohn said. “We can’t keep making the same mistakes. We’ll get back to training and get these things fixed.”
The Jimmies don’t play again until Sunday when Rocky Mountain College comes to Jamestown in the final home match of the season. Their remaining five matches in October are all on the road.
