It was a case of better late than never for the Jimmie women’s soccer team Saturday afternoon. Nearly 90 minutes into a hot 85-degree contest at the Jimmie Soccer Field, Kara Wahl tied it and then Jolynn Warnes won it. With less than six minutes to play, Warnes sent in a spot-on cross and Wahl was there to head it in for a game-tying goal.

Then in overtime, Warnes got the game-winner, wrong-footing Great Falls keeper Jocelynn Morris eight minutes into extra time to give the Jimmies a 2-1 win.

It was the sixth win of the season for the Jimmies, one more than all of last season.

“It’s been like 60 degrees every day and then all of the sudden it’s like this,” JC women’s coach Nick Becker said. “We used more subs than we normally do. … We were able to do enough. It was a good win.”

Becker was pleased with his team’s effort in the first half, but the Argos had the better of the play in the second 45 minutes.

Needing a goal late in the match, Becker moved up an additional attacker and it paid off.

“They took it to us in the second half. … It was getting late so we went with three in the back and moved one up and we were able to score.

“We didn’t play great, but the girls worked hard. … They’re tired,” Becker said.

Wahl, a former Jamestown High School standout, headed in Warnes’ long cross from the opposite corner. Warnes was under pressure on the play, but the feed was perfect.

Warnes nifty foot work also paid off in overtime as the sophomore from Alexandria, Minn., weaved around a pair of defenders before beating Argos keeper Morris to the far post with the game-winner.

JC keeper Kayla Byle had a handful of key saves and finished with seven total.

The Jimmies earned the sweep with a relatively easy win on Sunday.

And it started early this time.

Kirstine Adamson got the ball rolling just 7:14 into the match with a goal on an assist from Kara Wahl.

Jamestown College got a little help in the form of an own goal, which means Great Falls accidently kicked the ball into their own net. That occured with around 16 minutes to go in the first half.

The 2-0 lead helped JC get comfortable for the second half.

Gabrielle Lane scored with 10 minutes to go in the match with an assist being credited to Jolynn Warnes.

But even though it had a long way to go, Great Falls was still able to avoid the shutout thanks to a header from Katelyn Swart with a little more than 5 minutes remaining in the match.

Byle stopped eight shots in net for JC, while Argos keeper Joceyln Morris recorded seven saves.

The Jimmies host another Frontier Conference school in their final home game of the season next Sunday. They welcome in Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) at 1 p.m. JC’s final five games of the regular season are on the road.
