A decorated military veteran from North Dakota has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a boy over a six-year period.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A decorated military veteran from North Dakota has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a boy over a six-year period.

Adam Hamilton, of Larimore, was charged in Grand Forks County with continual sexual abuse of a minor. He pleaded guilty in May.

Judge Joel Medd says the nature of the crime called for a long sentence.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that the victim asked the judge Monday to sentence the 34-year-old Hamilton to 35 years in prison.

Hamilton is a 12-year veteran of the Air Force who spent several years at the Grand Forks base. He was deployed to the Middle East in 2002.
