Joanne Anderson introduced Larry Hoffman to speak to the Kiwanis Club last week about Camp Rokiwan.
Hoffman is a dentist in Jamestown. The camp board is made up of four members of Kiwanis and four members of Rotary. Hoffman is in Rotary. He showed a promotional piece on Camp Rokiwan that was from the late 1960s or early ’70s. It showed how Camp Rokiwan was back then and how it has grown over the years. Camp Rokiwan is located 20 miles northeast of Jamestown on the Spiritwood Lake shore. He then read some old minutes from the board from 1923 when it was started, and up until 1960. The YMCA took care of the camp until 1936 when Rotary and Kiwanis took over.
Kenrad Pederson led the meeting with 24 members attending. Chuck Axtman led the group singing a capella and Wes Hart collected “Happy Dollars.” There was one guest, Becca Hager, from US bank who plans on becoming a member.
Jerry Ronholm and Norm and DeLette Winkelman reported that they attended an interclub meeting in Carrington last week. There will be installation of officers at the Oct. 8 noon luncheon at the Lantern Room.
