Ten North Dakota State University football players charged in a petition fraud case have pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor election offense and will serve no jail time if they meet certain conditions.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Ten North Dakota State University football players charged in a petition fraud case have pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor election offense and will serve no jail time if they meet certain conditions.
The scandal stopped two citizen initiatives from making the November ballot, including one aimed at making marijuana use legal for sick people.
The NDSU players who pleaded guilty Tuesday include starters Samuel Ojuri, Joshua Colville, Marcus Williams and Brendin Pierre.
The 10 players were ordered to complete 50 hours of community service and pay $325 in fees. The offense will be cleared from their record in a year if they stay out of trouble.
Coach Craig Bohl has said the players could face team discipline but not suspensions.
NDSU is ranked No. 1 in the Football Championship Subdivision.
