Walk to School Day was found in 1997 as a way to bring community leaders and children together to build awareness of the need for communities to be more walkable. In 2011, students and parents from more than 4,000 U.S. schools took part in the event.
Walk to School events will be held nationwide today and throughout the month of October.
In Jamestown, Louis L’Amour Elementary and Lincoln Elementary students will take part in this event starting at 8 a.m. Staff from the schools will be at sites to meet students and then walk to their respective schools.
Louis L’Amour students will walk from Meidinger Park.
Lincoln Elementary students will walk from Feton Park, Klaus Park, Nickeus Park, Wilson Arena (bus transition), the post office and Jamestown Middle School (after choir practice).
