It’s hard to believe, but two years ago today, the Twins were opening up the postseason at home against the Yankees.
Two last-place finishes and 195 losses later, the Twins were holding the right people accountable for the debacle by firing bullpen coach Rick Stelmaszek, third base coach Steve Liddle, first base coach Jerry White and head athletic trainer Rick McWane — not!
Nobody in the player personnel department has been canned, at least not to my knowledge, and those are the folks responsible for building the team, but infield and baserunning coach Jerry White — you’re gone!
I’m sick of talking, writing or thinking about the Twins, so we’ll focus in on some franchises who know what they’re doing.
The playoffs start for real today — with the Bush League, made-for-TV, 1-and-dones in the books, we’ll take a stab at who will be the last team standing come November. Can you imagine if the Twins did not blow and were playing tomorrow with the way the weather has been? The game time temp would include the wind chill.
Anyways, here’s who we got getting to the league championship series, and then the team that will take the crown-of-flags trophy from Commissioner Bud Selig and his mystifying head of hair.

NL: St. Louis Cardinals
World Series: Tigers
Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander lead the Tigers to the title, and then Verlander goes on a long vacation with girlfriend Kate Upton … some guys do get it all.
Michael Savaloja
AL: Tigers
NL: Washington Nationals
World Series: Tigers
Delmon Young with a World Series ring? Further prrof that good things do happen to bad people.
Chris Aarhus
AL: New York Yankees
NL: Nationals
World Series: Yankees
I’ve always contended the Yankees are the fourth-most popular professional team in Jamestown, trailing only the Vikings, Twins and Packers. Winning their 28th World Championship sure won’t hurt their cause.
