Dakota Wesleyan came out hot, but the Jimmies withstand the early punch and prevailed again on the road.
Boosted by a fired up home crowd, the Tigers (4-18) took the opening set from Jamestown College, but the next three went to the Jimmies as they remained unbeaten in true road matches (4-0) and improved to 17-3 overall.
Senior Kaitlyn Rogalla and freshman Alaina Brown combined for 30 kills in another steady performance.
“(DWU) played extremely well. They had a crowd that was very loud, very into the match. We just got caught in a whirlwind in the first set,” JC coach Jon Hegerle said. “We didn’t play poorly, they just played really well.”
The second set was a JC rout (25-5) thanks to some strong serving from Brown, who had four aces in the match. In 36 attempts, she had just one error.
“She was the X factor tonight. She played very well,” Hegerle said.
Rogalla and Katie Zent also had strong matches. Rogalla pounded down 16 kills with just one error. Brown had 14 kills and Zent connected for 12 with a sparkling .522 hitting percentage. Zent also had a match-high nine blocks.
“When you look at the stats it looks like we played pretty well,” Hegerle said.
Limiting runs from the opponent remains a concern.
“It usually comes as a result of us making a number of mistakes and it changes the momentum in a match,” Hegerle said. “That’s something we know about and we’re continuing to work on.”
The Jimmies have another challenging test today against Northwestern College (14-6) in Orange City, Iowa.
