Approximately 20 firefighters, two pumpers and two rescue trucks responded to a fire in an enclosed trailer at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday at 811 20th Street Southwest.

A hunting party from Minneapolis on its way back from Canada had its trailer in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn when someone noticed smoke coming from it, said Jerry Kainz, deputy chief of the Jamestown Fire Department, which responded to the fire call.

“We’re not sure of the cause, but they had two car batteries in the trailer, and they use them in their camping and their hunting, and one of the batteries was not in a battery case,” Kainz said. “And something could have fallen on the battery.”

About 80 percent of the equipment and clothing were salvaged, and the trailer was still functional enough to make it to Minneapolis, Kainz said.

The Jamestown Fire Department was on the scene for approximately one hour.

The fire remains under investigation.
