A 4-2 weekend ended in a fifth-place finish for the Blue Jay volleyball team at the Fargo Invitational.
After going 2-1 on Friday, Jamestown had the same split Saturday, but coach Sara Hegerle liked Day 2 much better.
“I thought we competed really well. … Overall, it was a good day and a good tournament,” she said. “When you look at who was beating who, there aren’t one or two dominant teams. It’s pretty open and it’s fun that way.”
The Blue Jays dropped their opening match Saturday to Bismarck Century, but it was a competitive 3-setter with the Patriots prevailing 15-9 in the third.
The Blue Jays dispatched of Kindred in two tidy sets and then posted their best win of the weekend with a 2-1 decision over Fargo Davies, currently the No. 1 team in the East.
“It was a good way for us to end the tournament,” Hegerle said. “I thought we played well and were able to pull out a nice win against a good team.”
The Blue Jays were pretty balanced statistically again.
McKayla Orr had a whopping 112 digs and served in four aces. Josie Hegerle’s 88 assists were team-leading to go with 23 kills and four aces.
Addie Eamon’s 39 kills and nine blocks were team-highs. Senior Siri Jystad had matching 27s in kills and digs, while fellow senior Rebekah Horgan totaled 25 digs and 23 assists.
“We have a lot of players contributing right now. We feel pretty good about that,” Hegerle said.
The Blue Jays jump back into West Region play on Thursday, traveling to Bismarck to face St. Mary’s.
