UND's education building certified LEED Silver
The University of North Dakota's newly renovated education building has been certified for meeting elite environmental standards.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota's newly renovated education building has been certified for meeting elite environmental standards.
The addition and renovation included all education, student and faculty spaces and linked the building to nearby Gillette Hall. Renovations and additions include 14 classrooms, two lecture halls, four seminar rooms, five conference rooms and faculty offices.
Environmental improvements include high performance glazing, super-insulated walls and roofs, and a high-efficiency chiller.
The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the remodel with LEED Silver certification.
University officials say it's the first in the state higher education system certified for meeting the standards.
UND President Robert Kelley says the architects and engineers worked together to turn the challenge into a vision for the future. He calls the new building fresh and exhilarating.
