Comedy

“The British are Coming,” a recital with Dr. Rick Walentine and Jamie Namminga, is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reiland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Jamestown College. They will perform the recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in Froemke Auditorium, Foss Musical Hall, Valley City State University. There is no admission charge to either event.

Majid Bekkas Gnawa Ensemble, a Moroccan musical group here as part of Caravanserai, will perform at the Jamestown High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. today Admission is $7 for Arts Center members, $10 for others with no cost for children.

Comedians Bob Zany and Costaki Economopoulos perform at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Shady’s. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Box office hours at The Raven are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The United States Air Force Heartland of America Band performs in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Reiland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Jamestown College. Admission is free with a complimentary ticket which can be picked up at the Reiland box office or at The Jamestown Sun. The event is sponsored by The Jamestown Sun and Jamestown College.

A “Surround the State in Song” concert is at 4 p.m. Saturday at Jamestown High School. Fifth and sixth grade music students perform; the concert is being held at five locations around the state featuring 324 of North Dakota’s music students. Sponsor: American Choral Director’s Association. Admission: $5 for adults and students.

Valley City Bluegrass Jam is in Litchville, 1 to 5 p.m., Litchville Community Center, in conjunction with the Annual Pie & Pickin’ Social. The acoustic music event is free and will feature homemade apple pie and donuts. A freewill offering will go to pay the milk delivery man the debt owed to him by the former grocery store. Around Town

Wood carving with a local wood carving group is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Arts Center’s Hansen Studio. There is no charge. Call Andy Kudrna at 320-5075 with questions.

Public skating is from 7 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 28 at Wilson Arena. Cost for children is $2, adults $3 and rentals $2. For more information on special packages, call Jamestown Parks and Recreation at 252-3982 or Wilson Arena at 252-3939.

Special Events

The HOPE Dinner and Auction starts with a silent auction and social hour at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Zebedee Center. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. with a live auction to follow. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling 252-3397.

Jamestown College Department of Music Homecoming Concert, 7:30 p.m. Friday. Wind Ensemble performs first in DeNault Auditorium with choirs following in Voorhees Chapel. A pre-concert reception is at 6:45 p.m. in the lobby of the Reiland Fine Arts Center. No admission charge.

Street Fair, held in conjunction with Jamestown College Homecoming, is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Allen Field Commons. Food, games, arts and crafts planned. Admission is free; costs may vary at individual booths.

Jamestown College Homecoming 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Larson Sports Center (YMCA). Cost to participate is $15, $20 day of race. Proceeds go to men’s and women’s cross country and track teams. To register, contact Jim Clark, 252-3467, ext. 5506, or email clark@jc.edu.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $The 1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. To access the Story Line, call 252-7464. The library is located at 105 Third St. SE.

Stutsman County Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is located at 910 Fifth St. SE.

The Arts Center, 115 Second St. SW, Jamestown, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and by appointment Sunday. There is no admission charge.

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N, Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.

The Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historic Site near Cooperstown is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center near Pingree is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. The refuge trail system is open daily sunrise to sunset.

Art

Yvonne Marra’s art is on display at Unison Bank for the month of October. Unison features a new artist in its lobby each month.

Classes
