Fire calls for Oct. 13, 2012

Jamestown Fire Department calls:

Oct. 6: 11:43 a.m., ready squad responded to Walmart parking lot to a report of a small gasoline spill. Firefighters checked the area, gasoline was dissipated. Cause: gas can. Time out: 25 minutes.

Oct. 6: 1:34 p.m., the fire department responded to 525 Fourth Ave. NW to a report of a fire in a backyard. Firefighters extinguished an ATV on fire and investigated. Cause: unknown. No firefighter injuries. Time out: 40 minutes.

Oct. 6: 10:22 p.m., fire department responded to 811 20th St. SW (Comfort Inn parking lot) to a report of smoke coming from an enclosed trailer. Firefighters extinguished the fire and investigated. Cause: battery/electrical short. No firefighter injuries. Time out: 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Oct. 7: 9:50 p.m., the fire department responded to a report of a grass fire at Interstate 94 mile marker 258. Firefighters extinguished the fire and investigated. Cause: vehicle accident. No firefighter injuries. Time out: 1 hour, 10 minutes.

Oct. 8: 10:23 a.m., the fire department hazardous materials team responded to the U.S. Highway 281 bypass to a report of 75 to 100 gallons of diesel leaking from a semi. After arriving on scene there was no diesel leaking, so the team was not needed. Cause: vehicle rollover. No firefighter injuries. Requested by mutual aid from Jamestown Rural Fire Department. Time out: 25 minutes.

Oct. 11: 2:33 a.m., the ready squad responded to 502 13th St. SE #3 (multi-family dwelling) to a report of a smoke smell. Firefighters checked for smoke and fire but none was found. Cause: burnt eggs. Time out: 1 hour.
