MEDORA, N.D. (AP) — One of North Dakota’s top tourist destinations in the summer is looking to add some winter fun.

The city council in the Old West town of Medora has approved an outdoor ice skating rink that will be built near a downtown hotel.

Council members say the rink is the first step in making the western North Dakota town a winter recreational destination.

The town traditionally closes up at the end of the summer season, but several shops and restaurants now plan to remain open year-round.

Cost of the project is $3,000.

City officials told the Dickinson Press they hope the rink will be completed in time for Medora’s annual Old-Fashioned Cowboy Christmas event.
