Jimmies push record to 19-4

With a limited home schedule, winning on the road is critical for the Jimmie volleyball team.
Or, as coach Jon Hegerle puts it: “Ninety percent of our games are on the road, so yeah, we have to get comfortable in these road games and make some hay.”
The Jimmies have done it all season and did again Saturday, sweeping away Dakota State in Madison, S.D.
“It was a good team effort. Everybody played and I thought for the most part we were pretty consistent,” Hegerle said.
The Jimmies, now 19-4 overall and 15-4 in neutral/road games, mixed and matched a little, but still sewed up a tidy 25-17, 25-13 and 25-23 win.
“We tried some new things and that threw us out of rhythm a little but,” Hegerle said. “We served tough and passed well and Sarah (Becker), Katie (Zent), Kaitlyn (Rogalla) and Janna (Johnson) all hit pretty well.”
Rogalla led the way with 14 kills and had just two errors. Becker was also in double figures with 11.
The Jimmies also got a good look at the NAIA leader in kills per game (5.2) in Dakota State’s Kristen DiPaola, who had a match-high 18 kills.
“We had a number of digs missed in the front row and back row and we didn’t block as well as we would have liked, but she’s a good player. She leads the nation for a reason,” Hegerle said.
Kelsey Deragisch and Kaia Buck combined for 36 assists with 19 and 17, respectively. Katie Lee’s 16 digs were team-leading.
The Jimmies are back on the road this weekend, but the level of competition will take a step up when they head for the Grandview University Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. Among their four opponents are 12th-ranked Grand View and 19th-ranked Viterbo (Wis.).
