Fishing with no license violations increase in ND
The influx of people from around the country into the western North Dakota oil patch has resulted in an increase in citations for fishing without a license.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The influx of people from around the country into the western North Dakota oil patch has resulted in an increase in citations for fishing without a license.
Game and Fish Department Director Terry Steinwand tells The Bismarck Tribune wardens this year have issued about 240 citations to people who don't have the proper fishing license, compared to about 100 all of last year.
Doug Olson is the warden supervisor for the northwestern part of the state. He says wardens worked hard over the summer checking anglers. Steinwand says his department also has been proactive in trying to get information on how to hunt and fish legally to people who are new to the state.
Fishing without a license is a misdemeanor that carries a fine of up to $1,000.
