Carrington captures playoff position

Carrington sewed up a playoff spot with a 23-14 road victory over Rugby in Class AA West Region football action Tuesday night. Alex Nelson hauled in a 40-yard touchdown pass from Cole Hendrickson for the lone score of the first half.

Seth Abaurrea got the second half off to a fast start for the Cardinals with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Casey Murphy, who ran for 172 yards on 26 carries, got 32 of them on a 32-yard scoring dash later in the third quarter. McKenzie Miller gave the Cardinals a nine-point cushion with a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals improved to 5-2.
