JHS groups to present fall concert

The Jamestown High School Choir and orchestra will present their fall concert, “Music Around the World,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the JHS Theater. Admission is free. Community members are encouraged to attend.

The JHS Orchestra, directed by Jennifer Michalenko, will perform Baroque music through modern music, including Chorale Prelude, Storm Trail and Suite No. 5 in E major by Handel. The JHS Choir, under the direction of Cheryl McIntyre, will perform “Yo le Canto,” a Venezuelan folksong, “Away from the Roll of the Sea,” by Canadian composer McGillivray, and an a cappella vocal arrangement of “Turkish March” by Mozart.

The concert will include patriotic music including “The Star Spangled Banner” with instrumental accompaniments by a brass ensemble performed by Mary Joy, Brandon Bondley, Tom Mortenson, Declan O’Higgins, and Kara Fix, and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” featuring Shane Chandler on trap set and Bondley on trumpet. Also planned “Over the Rainbow,” accompanied by Drew Avans on ukulele, and “Rhythm of Love” featuring Mitchell Ova playing guitar.

Vocal soloists in this concert include Genesis Molina, Hunter Carpenter, Mortenson and Drew Avans. Featured ensemble members for “Over the Rainbow” include: Jenna Reed, Jenna Stilwell, Erika Hermanson, Shane Chandler, Bailee Graves, Billie Buchanan, Myriah Koebernick, Declan O’Higgins, Brittney Carpenter, and Julina Niemeier. Accompanists include Elise Opp and Billie Buchanan.
