Bravo to people who saved woman

The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos and buffalo chips this week:

* Buffalo chip to the people responsible for recent out-of-control fires set during periods of high risk for wildfires. Dry conditions and strong winds have turned much of the countryside into kindling. Recent fire causes have included a dropped cigarette and controlled burns that escaped control.

* Bravo to the Zonta Club of Jamestown for its restoration of the cupola from Jamestown’s old City Hall. The club rescued the cupola from demolition in 1989 and recently brought in several contractors to restore it. The cupola can be found in Zonta Park on First Street East near the new City Hall.

* Bravo to Moorhead, Minn., residents Cameron Janousek, Tom Pink and Clay County sheriff’s deputies Shawn Mork and Mark Empting for their rescue of a Minot, N.D., woman who was trapped in a burning car after a collision earlier this month in Moorhead. They risked their lives to extract Brianna Pallotta a moment before her car was engulfed into flames.

* Bravo to the return of the remains of U.S. Air Force Maj. Wendell Keller and Lt. Virgil “Mike” Meroney to the U.S. Keller and Meroney died March 1, 1969, in Laos during the Vietnam War. Their remains were recently discovered and will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

* Bravo to North Dakota’s latest oil production record and to the improved prices it’s getting for that oil. The state averaged 701,134 barrels per day in August and the decreased rates it used to receive due to transportation bottlenecks have been improved thanks to better connections.

* Buffalo chip to the loss of the Dakota Wizards NBA Development League Team. The team is becoming the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Warriors.
