Herman received the award for her accomplishments in advocacy.
Herman joined the AHA in 1981, working in advocacy since 1998. She has engaged volunteer leadership, grassroots advocates, staff and government partners and policy makers to help pass legislation to protect and improve the health of residents in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. 2010-2011 accomplishments in North Dakota include STEMI funding, recreational immunity and stroke funding. In addition to the North Dakota policy victories, the AHA said, her team achieved victories in South Dakota and Nebraska.
“I am truly honored to receive this award,” Herman said. “Each of those successes, along with many others over the years, was the work of a team. North Dakota is truly setting the benchmark for AHA, and continues to strive to improve outcomes in even more ways through health care, community and statewide system changes.”
Herman was also awarded the MWA Impact Award, which is the highest staff honor in the Midwest Affiliate.
Herman holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Stanislaus. She lives near Jamestown with her husband and has two grown children.
