Jimmies start strong, go 2-1

The Jimmie women’s wrestling team got off to a nice start on Friday.

Jamestown College went 2-1 at the Oklahoma City University Duals, advancing on to the Gold Division tournament format today.

After falling to perennial national power Oklahoma City 33-10, the Jimmies responded with wins over Lindenwood. Mo., (33-29) and Waldorf, Iowa (25-12).

Mary Westman led the way for the Jimmies, going a perfect 3-0 at 191 points. Only Westman and 109-pounder Amy Fearnside had wins over Oklahoma City in the opening dual of the day.

Westman had pins against OCU and Lindenwood as part of her strong start.

Fearnside added a win against Lindenwood where she piled up 12 points.

Alyssa Luna, Christina Zamora and Kayla Volin also had two contested victories for the Jimmies at 136, 155 and 171 respectively. Luna earned a pin against Lindenwood, while Zamora won by technical fall in her match against Lindenwood.

Tiffany Sluik (130) was the other Jimmie with two wins on the day, although one of them was by forfeit.

Shai Mason (143) won by fall in her lone match of the day against Waldorf.

The Jimmies square off with King (Tenn.) today at 9 a.m.
