Mary Westman wrapped up a near perfect opening weekend by going 5-1 for Jamestown College at the Oklahoma City University Duals.
After a 3-0 mark Friday, Westman, a freshman from Cattaragus, N.Y., won two of three matches on Saturday.
Team-wise, Jamestown College finished 3-3 in six duals and placed sixth in the Gold Division of the event, which was the top level in what coach Tony DeAnda said would likely by the toughest tournament his team wrestles in all season.
The Jimmies fell to eventual tournament runner-up King (Tenn.) 34-5 in quarterfinal action. They bounced back with a 31-16 win over Cumberland (Tenn.), before falling in the consolation championship match to Simon Fraser 32-4.
Westman’s only loss of the weekend at 191 pounds came in the final dual against Simon Fraser and even that one was close, 2-0 1-0 to Jennifer McClatchy. Earlier in the day, Westman earned the lone JC win against King and then won by fall against Cumberlands.
Tiffany Sluik went 4-2 on the weekend at 130 topped by a 2-1 effort Saturday, including a pin in the Cumberlands dual. Sluik had the only JC victory against Simon Fraser.
Other winners in the Cumberlands dual for the Jimmies were Amy Fearnside (109), Alicia Hubbard (123), Alyssa Luna (136), Christina Zamora (155) and Kayla Bolin (170).
The Jimmies get their first home action of the season this weekend with they host the Can Am Duals on Friday at 5 p.m. and the Can Am Open Saturday at 9 a.m.
