Aleona Reyes appears to be feeling no ill effects of her early-season illness.

The Jamestown College junior All-American finished third out of 141 runners at the Mount Marty Invitational on Saturday in Yankton, S.D.

“Aleona is running where she was last year at this time after the slow start she had to endure this fall,” JC coach Jim Clark said.

Concordia University’s Sarah Kortze finished well ahead of the field, but Reyes just missed out on a second-place finish. Her season-best time of 18:19.15 was less than a second behind Jena Schwalenberg, another Concordia runner.

“Aleona had a photo finish for second place,” Clark said.

Freshman Samantha Goff continued her strong debut season for the Jimmies, crossing 14th in a time of 19:15.62 to help Jamestown College to a seventh-place finish in the 12-team meet. Goff’s time was her best of the season so far.

“A top 20 finish in this meet as a freshman is a real accomplishment and can be a sign of great things to come,” Clark said. “Aleona finished 18th in this meet in her freshman year.”

Andrea Markwart, a sophomore from Bismarck, also ran a season-best, coming in 48th in a time of 20:22.

Sheyenne Stewart (21:38) and Ashley Mueller (21:42) rounded out the top five.

Dave Londe and Spencer Kamoni were in their customary 1-2 positions for the JC men.

Londe’s 27:55.16 put him 73rd out of 162 runners. Kamoni crossed 100th in 28:30.38.

Freshman Connor Doppler (28:45.41) and Joe Jensen (29:41.71) were the third and fourth Jimmies across and Kendall Wiltzen’s time of 30:09.22 counted in the top five for the first time this season.

Overall, the Jimmies were 13th out of 14 teams.

Up next for Jamestown College is the Association of Independent Institutions conference meet Nov. 3 in Escondido, Calif.
