Lisbon Broncos take region title

The Lisbon High School boys cross country team used a solid effort to dominate the Class B East Region meet Saturday in Cooperstown.

The Lisbon High School boys cross country team used a solid effort to dominate the Class B East Region meet Saturday in Cooperstown.

Thomas Horgeshimer won the meet with a time of 16 minutes, 57 seconds, but teammate Jacob Gallagher had a 17:31 to finish runner-up, leading the Broncos to a team score of 64, 23 better than runnerup Grafton.

Kieran Hall (18:05) finished sixth for the Broncos, who will prepare for the state meet Saturday in Dickinson.

Griggs County Central’s Tim Clifton also finished in the top 10, taking eighth with an 18:14. The Cougars took fourth as a team.

Farther back, Donavan Moser (11th) and Ceph Dockter (13th) led Central Prairie to a sixth-place finish with a score of 199.

In the top five joining Lisbon’s runners were Josh Mangin of Central Cass (third), Daniel Kuntz of Velva (fourth) and Nick Pederson (fifth) of Hatton-Northwood-Thompson.

Team-ise, Central Cass was third (98), while Rugby took fifth with a 178. Other area teams scoring included Carrington (308), Hatton-Northwood-Thompson (428) and Barnes County North (616).

On the girls side, Dakota Prairie’s Ashley Perez won with a 15:46, but Barnes County North’s Tess Scott was second with a time of 15:53.

Hillsboro-Central Valley took top honors with a 63, beating Rugby by 42 points. Barnes County North (189) was fifth, followed by Griggs County Central (236).

H at t o n - N o r t h wo o d - Thompson finished in fifth place with a 265. Also scoring was Lisbon (276), Carrington (296), Central Prairie (423), Dakota Prairie (479) and LaMoure (577).

For individuals in the top five, Shayla Fossum of Hillsboro-Central Valley was third, followed by Cassidy Peterson of Velva and Cailee Peterson of May-Port-CG.
