Man from Mexico sentenced on charge of re-entry of deported alien
U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that today, Jose Diaz-Campuzano, 55, of Mexico, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of re-entry of deported alien.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that today, Jose Diaz-Campuzano, 55, of Mexico, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of reentry of deported alien.
Hovland sentenced Diaz-Campuzano to serve one year and six months in
federal prison.
On Aug. 6, the Powers Lake Police Department and Burke County Sheriff’s
Office responded to a report of a disturbance at a campground near Powers Lake, N.D.
The U.S. Border Patrol was called to assist and discovered that Diaz-Campuzano was a citizen of Mexico and in the United States illegally. Diaz-Campuzano had been convicted of burglary in Illinois state court in 1981, and was deported from the United States on March 20, 2002. He illegally re-entered the United States and was convicted of possession
of a firearm by a felon in Minnesota state court in 1998 and possession of a controlled substance in Minnesota state court in 2006.
The case was investigated by the U. S. Border Patrol, the Powers Lake Police Department and the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
