JC women ranked, men get votes in first poll

The Jamestown College women’s basketball team will open the season just outside the top 10.

The Jimmies are ranked No. 11 in the preseason coaches’ poll, following a 27-5 season. They open the 2012 campaign on Friday when they host the 4-team Jimmie Classic. Jamestown College hosts Brandon, Man., Winnipeg, Man., and Mayville State. The Jimmies play Brandon at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Winnipeg at 4 Saturday. Mayville plays at 5:30 and 2 p.m. both days.

The JC men’s basketball team is just outside the top 25 in the preseason coaches’ poll.

The 2-0 Jimmies got the fifth-most points of teams not in the rankings, so they would be No. 30 if it went deeper. Indiana Tech, ranked 25th, got 64 points in voting.

The Jimmies play next Nov. 2 and 3 against No. 3 Dordt and seventh-ranked Northwestern — both in Iowa.

Valley City State’s men’s team is ranked No. 24, while the Viking women are just outside the rankings at No. 26.
