Class B roundup: Boom helps lead Edgeley-Kulm past L-M-M

Senior middle blocker Ashley Boom lived up to her name during the opening round of the District 5 volleyball tournament in Ellendale on Thursday night.
The 5-foot-7 Edgeley-Kulm product posted a match-high 19 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces to lead the Rebels past Litchville-Marion-Montpelier by the final of 3-2.
Edgeley-Kulm jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by taking the first two games 25-18, 25-12, but the Rebels of L-M-M fought back 25-13, 25-23 in games three and four. It was a commanding fifth frame that led E-K to the victory, as they stormed to the win 15-5.
Hallie Anderson tossed up 25 assists for E-K in the victory. The L-M-M Rebels were led by Tanys Ulmer with 7 kills and 4 aces, and Leah Bruse with 14 assists.
Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal rolled into the semifinals with a 3-0 win over Barnes County North.
Amanda Beckley and Jordan Thomas each hit six kills. Callie Neys turned up 12 digs.
Abby Undem and Samantha Wieland each had four kills for the Bison. Jayda Haugen set 15 assists.
Edgeley-Kulm moves on to face Ellendale in tonight’s semifinals at 6 p.m. Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal takes on LaMoure in the second semifinal match at 7:30.

Lisbon and Oakes won opening round matches at the District 1 Tournament in Lisbon.
Samantha Reinke had 17 kills, 10 digs and four aces as Lisbon defeated Sargent Central in four sets. Mattie Olson added 10 kills and four blocks.
Rane Nelson led the Cadets with 10 kills. Tiffany Beaver passed out 20 assists.
Oakes won the other opening-round match 3-0. No additional details were available at press time.
