Letter to the editor: Heitkamp can’t be trusted; Berg is right for U.S. Senate

As one commentator quipped regarding the undecided — “They have a life.” For a variety of reasons, some of us just put off making our choices in life until the very last minute.
There is something I find gnawing at me about Heidi Heitkamp’s batting-cage commercial (and her other ads), where she tells us that she will stand up for North Dakota and against President Barack Obama and the rest of the Democrat senators on the issues of Obamacare, fracking, EPA, etc. She then walks out of the batting cage and winks at us. Gnawing at me is that there is somewhere in my youthful Lutheran upbringing that taught me that a wink was signaling: “I am telling a lie — don’t believe what I am saying.” I dug out the good book to do some research and found that yes, that is true. (Proverbs 6:12-14). Also confirming that — train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6) — is also true and should not be taken lightly.
Independents and undecided, please for the good of North Dakota, choose Rick Berg for our U.S. senator. Choose Kevin Cramer for our U.S. representative. If we do have four more years of President Barack Obama, it is critical we have Berg and Cramer serving us in Washington. The kind of life we have in our nation today, and for our future, is at a critical point.
When you are making your decision, think of the killings in Libya and our not getting straight answers from our government. Think of the killing of Christians and other religious believers worldwide that is happening today. Think of the repression of people worldwide. Think about your own freedom of economic opportunity and religion, in speech and assembly and in self-government. Think about the economic and military strength of our country. Think about the role our nation has in standing up for the liberty and justice for all. Think of the future of our country.
It is important that we continue to protect and keep secure these freedoms. The choice is yours.
