Letter to the editor: Measure 3 helps protect our state’s many food choices

Why vote “yes” on Measure 3? One of the great things about this country is our right to choose. And we have lots of choices available to us. Especially when it comes to the food we eat.
Just take a look at the grocery shelves. We have so many choices, it’s almost mind-bending.
We have all those choices because farmers and ranchers have responded to what their customers want. Big farms, small farms, medium farms, organic farms or conventional farms all bring something to the table for America’s consumers.
But modern farming practices are under attack. Other states have seen groups swoop in with emotional rhetoric and convince the general public that the practices farmers and ranchers use are bad.
Agriculture is so important to North Dakota. It makes sense to provide a basic protection for modern practices that allow farmers and ranchers to continue using the latest technology to do the best job they can for the land and for all of us, so we can continue to have all those food choices we have come to expect.
Please join me in voting “yes” on Measure 3 on Nov. 6.
