BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota is on pace to eclipse last year's road fatality total, and Highway Patrol troopers hope they can do something about it.
KFGO radio reports that there have been 134 fatalities on state roads so far this year, compared with 148 for all of last year.
The Highway Patrol says in a statement that it is stepping up enforcement from now until the end of the year. The effort involves troopers working overtime to increase visibility and safety as winter and holiday travel approaches.
