It wasn’t easy, but the 11th-ranked Jimmie women escaped with a road win Friday night.

Jamestown College used a 7-0 run late to defeat Dordt (Iowa) 66-62 in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The men’s game was all Dordt as the No. 7 Defenders reeled off 23 straight points in the first half and never looked back.

The Jimmies have two more tough games today in Orange City, Iowa, against Northwestern. The Red Raider women are the three-time defending NAIA champions, while the Northwestern men are ranked No. 7.

The 3-0 Jimmies trailed just once in the game, but built a 34-23 halftime lead.

They led by as many as 14 in the second half, but the Defenders battled back on their home floor, eventually tying the game at 53-all with 4:29 left in regulation.

But the Jimmies scored the next seven points, including a key three from Hannah Steele with 3:15 left.

Carly Jensen also hit a big bucket late as part of her team-high 17 points.

The Jimmies shot just 36 percent and committed 21 turnovers. Only six players scored, but all five starters had seven points or more. Steele and Schuneman had matching 14-point outings. Schuneman and Ramlo each grabbed nine rebounds.

The high-powered Defenders buried a whopping 13 three-pointers on 23 attempts. They also dominated the glass, outrebounding the 2-1 Jimmies 47-27.

Mark Hoge carried the load for the Jimmies with 24 points. Davon Thomas added 15 and Breshion Tucker 11.
