GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A nonprofit group formed to help African immigrants in Grand Forks is celebrating its first anniversary.
The United African Community includes people from Liberia, Somalia, Ethiopia and more than a dozen other African nations.
The organization has helped immigrants connect with other local groups and a speakers bureau, and has offered practical assistance such as defensive driving courses.
The event is scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday at the University of North Dakota International Centre.
Reggie Tarr, spokesman for United African Community, tells the Grand Forks Herald that group members plan to outline their accomplishments in the last year and talk about future plans.
