Letter to the editor: Republican mailer was error, not an attempt to mislead

It has been brought to my attention that a mistake was made in a mailing sent on behalf of my local Republican legislative candidates. In a recent letter to the editor, Dean Remboldt said the local Republican campaign was “trying to fool you into voting” for Bernie Satrom, Ken Hall and Alex Looysen as incumbents.
While it was an unfortunate mistake made by the Republican House and Senate caucuses, it was not an attempt to lie to the citizens of Jamestown. After all, our vice president is no stranger to an “oops” moment or a slip of the tongue. I am very disappointed that Remboldt would automatically jump to the belief that local candidates are unethical and have created “broken trust.” It is a shame that he has let the national political scene seep into our North Dakota races. I know from firsthand experience that Satrom, Hall and Looysen are individuals of conviction. They would never run a campaign of lies or misinformation. After all, in a community like Jamestown we all keep tabs on each other. While Remboldt tries to create a false argument of unethical behavior I would rather talk about the issues at hand. Satrom, Hall and Looysen are dedicated to the future of Jamestown and North Dakota.
We all have a “story to tell” but I would rather talk about the issues and where the candidates stand. After all, doesn’t Remboldt’s federal Senate candidate remind us to vote “for the person, not the party.”
