Alex Lind took home another honor on Saturday.

The state champion diver from Jamestown High School was named West Region senior athlete of the year at the West Region meet in Bismarck.

“It’s really cool. In fact, a diver doesn’t normally get that award,” JHS coach Ben Smith said.

Lind added another region title to her resume, scoring 429 points to win the event. She edged out Bismarck Century’s Lauren Gietzen by nearly 25 points.

However, the Blue Jays finished sixth out of six teams with 203 points. Three-time defending state champion Century won with 481.5 points, while Minot was second at 401. Century won seven of the 12 events.

Lind was the only winner for the Jays, but she did have a few teammates receive honors as well. Kamie Wagar and Abby Wanzek joined Lind on the all-region team. All three are senior captains.

Abby Wanzek finished fourth in diving with 364.2 points, while Annie Hart was fourth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle.

Additionally, Wagar took fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 breaststroke, and Paige Peterson placed sixth in the 50 freestyle. The Blue Jays’ 200 medley relay finished fourth.

Smith said the Blue Jays are right on pace with where he hoped.

“(Saturday) went how we planned,” he said. “They’ll be resting this week, so they’ll be ready for this weekend.”

The state meet is set for Friday and Saturday in Bismarck.
