Today important choices will be made that will affect our future. If you haven’t had an opportunity to vote yet, or simply wanted to wait to do so, today’s the day. Take the time to cast your ballot.

The candidates and the issues have been debated and today the direction our country — and our state — take will be decided.

Locally, voters will decide who will represent them on the Stutsman County Commission and District 12 in the North Dakota Legislature. The commission faces issues including the area’s long-term growth, road concerns and jobs development. The Legislature will continue to face challenges related to the state’s booming Oil Patch, creating meaningful property tax relief and other issues.

Residents will also elect a governor and state officials as well as a U.S. senator, representative and president. They will decide measures including whether smoking should be banned in workplaces and one dealing with animal cruelty.

Be prepared if you vote today. Bring your ID. If you don’t have one, be sure you have something to show that you live here: a utility bill with your name and address on it, for example.

Voting is a privilege too many take lightly by not participating. Don’t be one of them. Take the time to vote if you haven’t.
