Peterson speaks to Rotary on program

Polly Peterson, vice president of advancement and business affairs, spoke on the new advance degree program Jamestown College will offer in fall 2013 during last week’s Rotary meeting.

This Doctorate of Physical Therapy program will be housed in a new building in Fargo. Peterson said the building is soon to be under construction and will accommodate up to 100 students and eight faculty.

This is Jamestown College’s first off-site campus. This is part of the college’s strategic plan to help increase enrollment in the undergraduate program. It is now offering a pre-physical therapy degree and an exercise science degree.

Gary Riffe gave the two-minute talk. He has lived in Jamestown for the past 35 years and has been a licensed nursing home administrator for 41 years. He grew up in Roseburg, Ore., and moved with his family back to the Midwest in 1965. He and his wife, Jill, have four grown children and eight grandchildren. Riffe has been in the Jamestown Rotary Club since 1978 and also a past Rotary president of the Jamestown club.

Quincy Backen presided over the club meeting and Austin Martin gave table blessing reciting the Cowboy Prayer. Larry Hoffman and Gina Dahl led the group in music and Tom Eckstein collected numerous “Happy Dollars.” This was the last meeting for Jamestown High School students Ashtyn Stein and Alexis Grabinger. The guest was Rev. John Rhoad, senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church.

Backen handed out a signup sheet for members to help deliver meals on wheels on the second Thursday of each month. He also reminded members to turn in any rose sale money. This project has netted around $3,100.

Bob Badal will introduce today’s Rotary program, Warren Tobin will give the invocation, Harvey Huber is the song leader and Robin Anderson is the sergeant-at-arms.
