Carrington advances to championship

Madison Wendel had 18 kills and five blocks as the Carrington High School volleyball team punched its ticket to the Region 4 tournament championship match with a 3-1 win over Benson County Tuesday night in Devils Lake. Game scores were 25-16, 29-27, 20-25 and 25-23.

Madison Wendel had 18 kills and five blocks as the Carrington High School volleyball team punched its ticket to the Region 4 tournament championship match with a 3-1 win over Benson County Tuesday night in Devils Lake.

Game scores were 25-16, 29-27, 20-25 and 25-23.

Kayla Hochhalter added 17 kills and Josey Page and Nikki Braaten each had 19 assists for the Cardinals.

Andrea Jorgenson’s 11 kills were tops for Benson County, which also got 10 kills from Chelsey Weigler.

Langdon swept Rolla in the other semifinal matchup behind 22 kills from Abbey Braaten. Lyndee Johnson also had nine kills.

Rolla, which was coming off a big win over Midkota in the quarterfinals, got 16 kills from Mary Jo Guilbert.

Carrington meets Langdon in the championship match on Thursday night. Benson County and Rolla play for third.

Grovers, Vikings advance in Region 1

Fargo Oak Grove pulled a big upset in Region 1, knocking off defending state champion Central Cass 3-2 in stunning fashion in Oakes.

Central Cass won the first two, but Oak Grove rallied to win the next two, edging the Squirrels in exciting fashion in game 5. Game scores were 21-25, 14-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 17-5.

Halley Kelley had 14 kills for Oak Grove. Central Cass was led by Faith Dooley’s 17 kills.

Kindred swept Northern Cass 25-19, 25-15, 25-12 in the other semifinal.

Kellie Schmidt paced Kindred with 19 kills, while Ally Erickson added 13. Northern Cass was led by Vanessa Johnson’s nine kills.

Oak Grove and Kindred meet in the title match on Thursday. Northern Cass and Central Cass will play for third.
