Shared-parenting measure passes in Walsh County
Voters in northeastern North Dakota's Walsh County have overwhelming approved a shared-parenting initiative.
GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) — Voters in northeastern North Dakota's Walsh County have overwhelming approved a shared-parenting initiative.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that the county measure passed Tuesday with 66 percent approval.
The measure establishes equal parental rights for divorced or separated parents, as long as neither parent is legally determined to be an unfit parent. It was spearheaded by a Park River man who was the main promoter of a similar statewide ballot measure that voters rejected in 2006.
