A.I.I. tournament open today

The Jamestown College soccer teams and the Jimmie volleyball team open play in Association of Independent Institution tournaments today.

The Jimmie men’s soccer team carries a 14-4 record and the No. 2 seed to San Marcos, Calif., and will open against third-seeded University of Houston-Victoria (9-7) at 4 p.m. The other game features top-seeded Ashford, Iowa (11-2-4) and Cal State-San Marcos (6-6-3).

The 8-8-2 Jimmies women are seeded third and play Ashford (11-4-2) at 1 p.m. The two met Oct. 20 in Iowa and played to a 2-all draw. San Marcos (10-4-3) is the top seed and opens with Houston-Victoria (7-10).

Only the tournament-winning teams advances to nationals.

The 24-7 Jimmie volleyball team plays Valley City State (15-20) and Ashford (22-16) in pool play games in Mayville at 3 and 7 p.m., respectively. The tournament has two pools of three and the top two in each advance to Saturday’s semifinals. The championship match will follow and both of those teams advance to nationals.
