Letter to the editor: Rather than complain, support local businesses

I was really disappointed to read the article from the “other” Linda Brown on Nov. 9. Her comments about the mayor, City Council and vacant buildings, in my opinion, were sarcastic and rude. As far as our variety stores not offering what she wants, well, I guess she has found a solution and is shopping somewhere else. I happen to like the stores in Jamestown as does my sister who “loves” to shop in them whenever she visits. I do not purchase everything in town because when I am on vacation or visiting elsewhere out of town, I enjoy the opportunities to explore other types of stores as well.

Again, I suggest to the other Linda Brown that if she does not like the way others are managing our community, she might consider running for an office. She always has the option to support Jamestown by renting or purchasing one of those vacant buildings and starting a business of her choice. Ideally, it would be great to see all the buildings thriving, however, that is not the way it is right now and rather than spending my time complaining about it I will continue to support the stores that are already here. If they are supported it offers incentive for people to open new businesses.

I hadn’t seen of any of her letters for a while and am truly disappointed.
