Oil boom impacting air base civilian jobs

Minot Air Force Base is looking for civilian workers as the western oil fields continue to draw engineers, electricians and others.

MINOT (AP) — Minot Air Force Base is looking for civilian workers as the western oil fields continue to draw engineers, electricians and others.

Kevin Nelson with the 5th Mission Support Group told the Minot Daily News that there are more than 150 vacancies on base, and the base is in direct competition with the oil industry when it comes to filling a lot of them.

Nelson said about 20 people have resigned recently to go to work in the high-paying oil fields. He says it’s not that they didn’t like their jobs at the base — it’s simple economics.
