Hart one of five in finals for JHS

While standout diver Alex Lind stayed on pace to repeat as state champion on Friday, sophomore Annie Hart showed she’s ready to rise to the top.

Hart finished the 100-yard backstroke in 59.80 seconds, good for third in the preliminaries of the state swimming and diving meet in Bismarck.

Hart, who had the fourth best time coming in, also placed sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.12 seconds. She entered with the 12th-best time in the state and trimmed 1.25 seconds off her seed time.

The top 16 placers from Friday’s prelims earn a spot in today’s finals, set for 1:40 p.m.

Hart was the Blue Jay to make the finals in two events, but Jamestown did have four other girls make the finals.

Senior Kamie Wagar swam the 10th-best time in the butterfly with a 1:03.52, while Paige Peterson finished not far behind Hart in the 50 free with a time of 25.68, good for ninth.

Lind scored 201.4 points to stay in front in the diving competition and teammate Abby Wanzek slipped into the finals with a 155.25 for 15th.
