Mary Kettleson

Mary Kettleson, 88, Bismarck, died November 11, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, November 16, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm Thursday, November 15, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, where a rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mary Catherine was born January 28, 1924, at Regan, ND, the daughter of Patrick and Alice (Murphy) Patton. She grew up on her family’s farm east of Regan and attended Canfield Elementary School and Regan High School. She attended Dickinson College, University of Mary, and earned her master’s degree from the University of North Dakota in 1971. Mary taught in the Bismarck Public School system for 25 years and was Assistant Principal at Highland Acres School for 15 years. On January 12, 1946, Mary married Creighton Kettleson at St. Ignatius Church in Wing, ND. The couple made their home in Bismarck. Mary and Creighton spent 20 years wintering in Mesa, AZ. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society (a professional society of women educators.) She enjoyed traveling, dancing-especially square dancing, and singing in the church choir. Mary loved to bake, read, and sing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children, two sons, Jerome (Bonnie), Bismarck, and James (Debbie), Omaha, NE; three daughters, Janette (Rick) Buresh, Fargo, Dianne (Arnie) Strand, Jamestown, and Julie Tello, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rose Ellen McCourt, MI, and Patricia (Richard) Orman, MT.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Creighton; her parents; her granddaughter, Nicole Kettleson; brothers, Raymond Patton, Aelred Bouche, and Lawrence Bouche.
