The Jamestown Planning Commission gave tentative final approval to one plat and unanimously endorsed the Jamestown/ Stutsman Development Corp. plan to finance hiring a planning consultant for the city. Both actions came during the commission’s regular meeting Tuesday.
“This is the beginning of an effort this commission has been talking a lot about,” said Harley Trefz, chairman of the commission. “We have felt there was a need for more expertise when it comes to planning.”
The JSDC plan would hire SRF Consulting for about six months to determine the scope of planning work needed in Jamestown and provide expertise to city officials.
“The reason for our involvement is the sense of urgency we have to get this rolling,” said Jim Boyd, JSDC Board member designated as leader on this project. “There needs to be a growth plan developed for the city.”
The board gave final approval to a plat of Andersen’s Country View Estates. This is a replat of an area in northeast Jamestown. The plat was approved pending a change in design designating the portion of the section line adjacent to the property as a road right of way.
In other business, the board looked at a conceptual plan for a plat of Berndt Addition and reviewed the city’s proposed ordinance dealing with infrastructure in new developments. The ordinance lowers the costs developers would have to pay up front when starting new housing or commercial subdivisions in Jamestown.
