Three women awarded titles at Montpelier Pageant

The Montpelier Pageant was held Saturday night in the Montpelier High School gymnasium. Seven young women from across the state competed for the titles of Miss Fort Abercrombie, Miss Peace Garden and Miss James River Valley.

Each contestant was awarded a $100 scholarship and each of the three new titleholders was awarded a $500 scholarship.

Katie Carpenter, a student at Jamestown College and native of Moffit, was crowned Miss James River Valley 2013. She is the daughter of David and Vicki Carpenter. Madelyn Esperum was crowned Miss Peace Garden 2013. She is the daughter of John and Michele Esperum and Jason Vaughn and Brenda Esperum Vaughn, a student at North Dakota State University, Fargo, and native of Coon Rapids, Minn. Dickinson native Cassandra Ridl was crowned Miss Fort Abercrombie 2013. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and daughter of Arthur and Cindi Ridl.

These three women will compete in the Miss North Dakota Pageant June 6-8 in Williston. Other contestants included Ashley Boom of Edgeley, Rachelle Muir of Litchville, Anna Larson of Jamestown and Hannah Hendricks of Fargo.

For the talent competition, Carpenter performed the vocal solo “Think of Me” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera.” Esperum performed a vocal solo, “Shake It Out,” by Florence Welch and Paul Epworth. Ridl is a pianist and played Jarrod Radnich’s arrangement of Klaus Badelt’s “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Sophie Miller, Miss James River Valley 2012, was the master of ceremonies and performed her Miss North Dakota talent selection, “Sonate Pathetique” by Ludwig von Beethoven on the piano.
