Late pins lift Northern State by Jimmies

Northern State finished with a flourish to rally past Jamestown College Wednesday night in Aberdeen. After winning three of the first five matches, the Jimmies built a 16-0 lead, but the Coyotes won by fall at 184, 197 and heavyweight to win it 28-10.

Northern State finished with a flourish to rally past Jamestown College Wednesday night in Aberdeen.

After winning three of the first five matches, the Jimmies built a 16-0 lead, but the Coyotes won by fall at 184, 197 and heavyweight to win it 28-10.

The Jimmies fell to 1-1 in duals in the early goings.

Freshman Edward Wilson leveled the match for the Jimmies at 133, edging Tyler Frost, 6-4.

Dillon Kifer, another freshman, followed with a pin early in the sixth minute to make it 9-3. It was nearly a 3-0 start for the Jimmies, but Anthony Bruno edged JC’s Joseph Murillo 1-0 in the opener at 125.

Senior Samuel Brown delivered an 11-3 major decision at 157 for the Jimmies to make it 13-7. After NSU won at 165, sophomore Johnathon Gonzalez earned a narrow 8-7 decision at 174 to put the Jimmies up 16-10.

But the Coyotes got pins by Chad Gibson, Baker Haar and Matthew Meuleners to finish the match on an 18-0 run.

The Jimmies are back in action on Saturday when they head to Moorhead to compete in Concordia College’s Cobber Open.
