Thelma Hertel

Thelma “Joyce” Hertel, age 79, of Carrington, ND, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Thelma Joyce Hatch was born on September 10, 1933, the daughter of Ralph and Rose (Rank) Hatch in Wells County near Sykeston, ND. She was raised in Wells County and attended school in Sykeston.

On October 22, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Harold Hertel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. They lived on a farm south of Carrington before moving their house to town. Harold died on July 19, 2009.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, making quilts, gardening and flowers. Joyce sewed many quilts and gave them to the children at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, ND. She was a member of Federated Church and taught Sunday School.

Joyce will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by one son, Rick (Denise) Hertel, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Barbara (Mark) Sullivan, Fort Peck, MT; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Murmen Gary, Manton, MI.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents; husband, Harold; one daughter, Nancy Gary; two sisters, Lucille Bredy and Caroline Hatch; and three brothers, Orville Hatch, Sr., Kenneth Hatch, and Russell Hatch.

Visitation: Sunday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND.

Prayer Service: Sunday, 4:30 PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND.

Funeral Service: Federated Church UCC/UMC, Carrington, ND
