Turkey growers to donate birds to ND charities
Turkey growers are planning to donate Thanksgiving birds to North Dakota shelters for abused women and the homeless.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Turkey growers are planning to donate Thanksgiving birds to North Dakota shelters for abused women and the homeless.
North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring (GORE’-ing) are taking part in the Monday presentation at the Capitol.
The turkeys are going to the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and the Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck.
The growers bring a live turkey to the ceremony, which can make things interesting. In 2006, then-Gov. John Hoeven tried to handle the bird, and it protested by flapping its wings and trying to take off.
